How to Transfer Money to the Netherlands


1. Transfer money to the Netherlands via Western Union, which is one of the two recommended methods by the U.S. Consulate General Amsterdam, Netherlands. Do a phone transfer by calling 800-325-6000. Or, transfer the money online via the Western Union website (see Resources). Go into your nearest Western Union location to buy a money order and have the funds transmitted to the recipient in the Netherlands by the “Will Call System.” According to the U.S. Consulate General Amsterdam, Netherlands, the money should arrive within an hour. Fees vary.
2. Send money to a recipient in the Netherlands via MoneyGram, which is also recommended by the U.S. Consulate General Amsterdam, Netherlands. You can do the money transfer by calling 800-666-3947 or on the MoneyGram website (see Resources). According to the U.S. Consulate General Amsterdam, Netherlands, the money should arrive within an hour. Fees vary.
3. Go into your local bank branch to do an international wire transfer to get money to the Netherlands. To do this, you must have the banking information of the recipient. Keep in mind that a wire transfer can take up to 10 business days to appear in the recipient's account. For specific times and fees, ask your banker as it varies.
4. Use PayPal to instantly transfer money to the Netherlands if the recipient has a PayPal account. PayPal accounts are free to open, but there is a small fee when you receive money. Log into the PayPal website (see Resources) to send the money. The recipient will need to have a PayPal debit card to withdraw the cash immediately. Otherwise, the recipient has to transfer the money out of PayPal and into his bank account, which takes three business days.
