How to Test My Ebook Sales With PayPal

1. Sign up for a Merchant account at PayPal. Go to the main PayPal website and choose to sign up as a Merchant if you don't already have an account. Enter your information and confirm it.
2. Set up a download page. This page doesn't have to be fancy, and can be a simple, single page site with something along the lines of 'Thank You for Your Purchase' in bold letters at the top. This page will be used to download your ebook immediately. Alternatively, you can email the ebook to the customer manually, but this means that the customer won't automatically receive the ebook and may become impatient.
3. Go to the 'Merchant Services' tab of the main PayPal page and select the 'Buy Now Button'. Follow the steps to create a 'Buy Now' button for your ebook. Plug in the web address of the thank-you page you made in the 'Take Customers to a Specific URL After Successful Purchase' box.
4. Get traffic to your 'Buy Now' button. The simplest methods to do this are to advertise with pay per click engines, such as Google Adwords, share this button on forums that allow it in your signature or in threads, or use search engine optimization to write articles about keywords related to your product and direct traffic from those articles to your ebook. Be sure you are niche-specific with your ads and traffic sources. If your ebook is titled 'How to Get a Six Pack in Six Weeks,' join exercise forums, not online business forums.
5. Evaluate the sales of your ebook. PayPal charges a small fee---as of October 2010, about $0.60 per $10 of transactions---for using their service, but other than this and the cost of a domain, you should have incurred minimal other costs unless you paid for traffic. Take into account how active your method has been and how many refund requests you have before deciding if you wish to pursue the product more vigorously.
