How to Set Up a PayPal Account
1. Hit the "SIGN UP" button.
2. Now decide what kind of account you need: personal, premier, or business. If you are only buying, you want personal, if you are going to buy and sell (or receive money - like from writing online)you want premier, and business is self explanatory.
3. Sign up with the e-mail address you want to use for all transactions, and fill out all the necessary personal information (phone, address, etc.)
4. Choose a password. It should be easy enough for you to remember, but not so easy that anyone could easily hack it.
5. Have your checking account information ready to link to your PayPal. This is what allows you to put money into, or take money out of, your checking account freely. You also have the ability to attach your PayPal account to a credit card, as well, but this doesn't work nearly as well if you're going to be receiving money via PayPal.
6. Take the time to actually read the user agreement. This isn't just legal mumbo jumbo, but there's actually really good information in here that you will want to know about your account. When you're done, hit "Accept."
7. Wait for the confirmation e-mail to activate your account, and enjoy!
How to Use Paypal to Transfer Money
1. Go to Paypal.com and open an account. Click on the link at the top of the page that says 'Sign Up.' You will be asked to provide your name, street address, phone number and email address. You will also need to set up a user name and password so you can easily log on.
2. List a payment method with Paypal. This can be a credit card or bank account. If you want your account to be listed as 'verified,' you need to supply banking information, but you can transfer money with just a credit or debit card.
3. Make sure your intended recipient has a Paypal account set up, and that you know the email address he uses for his account. It is also possible to send money through a cell-phone number, as long as the number is listed with Paypal.
4. When you are ready to make the transfer, sign on to Paypal and click on 'Send Money.' Paypal will give you the option of making payment by email or phone. Click on your intended mode of delivery, based on the type of account the receiver has.
5. Fill out a short form with the email address or cell-phone number of the recipient, the email address of your Paypal account, the amount you are sending and your purpose in sending the money. Click on 'Continue.'
6. Log on at the next screen (if you have not already done so). You already have a payment method set up as a default, but you can change it by clicking on 'Change' under 'Payment Method.' At the bottom of the page, you can write a note to the recipient, if you desire.
7. When everything is filled out to your satisfaction, click 'Send Payment.' Paypal will send you confirmation that your payment was sent, and the recipient will also receive a message regarding the money he has coming. You're done!
How to Get Donations for Weddings Online
1. Create a donation button which will direct online visitors to a place where they may donate money using a major credit card or PayPal account. PayPal, for instance, offers a donation button that is easy to display on blogs and websites.
2. Create a personal website where you will display your donation button. On the website, include information on your current financial situation, why you need the money, how much you are hoping to earn as well as a background on your fiance and yourself. Using your website builder, you will be able to easily display the donation button on your website and accept donations. Include a page with various wedding plans so the people who donate can keep up with the status of your wedding.
3. Create a wedding blog in which to display your donation button. Blogs are free to make and have user-friendly interfaces. The blog may be focused on the financial straits that have led you to seek out donations or it may simply be a wedding planning blog with a button displayed for optional donations. Another way to accept donations is to display contact information that allows friends and family to e-mail you for instructions on how to send donations by check.
4. Market your website and blog on the Internet through various social networking sites. Sites like Facebook and Twitter allow you to announce your request for donations and post links to your website and blog for further information.
5. Add your website and blog links to your e-mail signature. You can also add your links to your message board signatures if the message board admin allows links. Avoid incessant begging and spamming on message boards. Ask for approval before displaying your links.
Fundraising Widgets for Facebook
Facebook Causes
Causes is an application developed by Facebook that is intended to help nonprofits with their fundraising. Facebook users can join the cause and donate from the social network, and you can include a donation widget on your website as well. Causes raised about $7 million for nonprofits by 2009 according to Joe Green, one of the developers of Causes, in a 2009 report by Kim Hart and Megan Greenwell that appeared in "The Washington Post." Hart and Greenwell reported however that the success of Causes' pages is often limited. Only 1 percent of those who joined a cause donate, and the majority of organizations listed on Causes received no donations. Causes is only available for nonprofit organizations.
ChipIn
ChipIn is a simple donation widget you can include on a Facebook Page or your organization's website. The widget displays the fundraising goal and how close your organization is to meeting it. Donations are processed through PayPal. ChipIn doesn't require organizations to verify that they are registered nonprofits, so setting up a donation widget takes little time and anyone can use it. ChipIn doesn't charge to create a donation widget, but PayPal charges 2 to 3 percent of each transaction in fees. Verified nonprofits receive the lowest rates.
Razoo
Razoo is a fundraising service that offers a Facebook application along with many other tools. Using Razoo, you can communicate with a team of fundraisers and see who is meeting fundraising goals and who might need encouragement. Donations through Razoo can be shared on Facebook or the Razoo website, giving recognition to donors and fundraisers. The Razoo Facebook application redirects donors to your Razoo fundraising page or your organization's website where their donations are processed securely. Razoo charges 2.9 percent per transaction in fees.
Ammado
Ammado has tools similar to Razoo and other fundraising platforms but can accept donations in more than 75 international currencies. Ammado's Facebook application can take donations directly on Facebook instead of redirecting donors to another website. You can also turn supporters into fundraisers by encouraging donors to add the application to their profiles and invite their friends to donate. Ammado collects 5 to 7 percent of every donation in fees.
PayPal
PayPal provides a donate button you can include on a Facebook Page or profile to raise money. While not a widget or application, the button links to PayPal's website, where donors can give easily using any major credit card even if they don't have a PayPal account. PayPal offers discounted rates to nonprofits, but you must verify your organization's nonprofit status to qualify for the reduced transaction fees. Fees range from about 2 to 3 percent of the transaction amount at the time of publication.
