How to Create a Donation Website
1. Use software. Donations need to be timely. You might need to raise money to pay rent or help someone in a news story. Learning how to program, design and build a website can takes months or even years. Consider creating a donation website with existing software. Set up a blog for free with Google's Blogger in just a few minutes. Utilizing existing software lets you focus on the problem at hand instead of adding stress by learning how to make a website from scratch.
2. Share your story. There are a lot of donation websites out there. Yours needs to stand out. Tell people why they should give to help support your cause. Blog on your site often with thank-you notes for the donations. Update your blog regularly to keep readers aware of the running totals of their donations and progress that has been made with your charity or situation.
3. Create a banner or button. If you don't have a design program, use MS Paint. Not everyone who visits your donation website will be able to afford to give money. Visitors can help spread the word out to reach other Internet users. Make a button that details the cause in a few words. If the donation is going to help a specific person, include their picture in the background to lend legitimacy to the cause. Readers can place the button on websites, blogs and forums to get the word out about your donation site.
4. Set up secure payment processing. A visitor may be more likely to donate if your site is trustworthy. People may be wary of giving their credit card information out even if it's for a good cause. PayPal offers a free donation button where users don't even have to have a PayPal account to give money. Buyers will be able to pay from their own PayPal accounts or using their credit card.
Enter the name of your organization in the button creator. Change the appearance of the button and decide what currency users should donate in. Include an email address to receive payments and select whether donors should give a specified amount. Copy and paste the generated code into the html of your blog post or side bar.
5. Accept any amount of money. Readers may be leery of donating a set amount. Ask for anything your visitors can afford. If Internet visitors support your cause the pennies will add up quickly. If they are unable to donate, encourage them to leave thoughtful or inspiring messages.
6. Harness your existing site, auction or estore. Turn any sites that you already have into donation websites. You may make more sales if you donate a percentage of each sale to charity. Customers get a product they need and also help people at the same time.
7. Get the word out about existing charities. You might not be able to set up your own charity due to time constraints. Instead promote a charity that you already believe in using your donation site. Make readers aware of any prevention programs that exist as well as fundraisers.

How to Make a Donation Website
1. Sign up for a web host and domain service. Choose a domain name that is directly associated with your purpose for requesting donations so that it will be more easily located and your visitors will understand what the site is about immediately. For instance, if you are collecting money for your little league team, littleleaguedonations.com would be an ideal choice. Expect to pay anywhere between $5 to $20 per month on your hosting service.
2. Sign up for a PayPal account. This service will allow you to accept donations online without paying an upfront or monthly fee. You will pay a per transaction fee for each donation that you accept. You will also be able to generate PayPal 'Donate Now' buttons automatically using your account.
3. Create three main HTML web pages for the site: 'Homepage,' 'About the Cause,' and 'Donate Now.'
4. Start by creating your donation homepage, which will contain all of the links to your other pages. The homepage should have about 350 words about your company or yourself, and the reason why you are asking for donations.
5. Include a few photos related to the cause on the homepage. Create a side or top menu bar with links to all of the main pages of your site. In addition to the item on the menu, include a large, prominently displayed brightly colored button on the front page that says 'Donate Now.'
6. Write about your cause or purpose for asking for donations on the 'About the Cause' page. Provide a detailed background on your organization or yourself to assure the potential contributor that your cause is legitimate and worthy.
7. Create your 'Donate Now' page. Tell the reader again why you need this donation and where the money will go. You will place another 'Donate Now' link on this page --- this time one that is generated by PayPal to take the visitor to the PayPal site to complete the donation.
How to Setup a PayPal Sandbox Developer Account

2. Type the information into the sign-up form. Paypal recommends that you do not use the same email account name that you use to log in to Paypal.
3. Click 'Agree and Submit.' Paypal creates your account.
4. Navigate to the Paypal sandbox log-in page. Log in to your test account using the user name and password you set up in step two.
5. Click 'Log In.' The Paypal sandbox account window opens, looking just like a user's Paypal account. You use this account name to set up your Paypal code in your programs.
How to Set Up Pay
1. Go to the PayPal website and click the "Sign Up" link to create a new PayPal account if you do not already have one.
2. Choose to make either a Premier or Business account. Personal accounts may not use the PayPal shopping cart, and will be upgraded to Premier or Business accounts automatically if the merchant services are accessed. Choose a Premier account if you are an individual, or choose the Business account option if you are a merchant with a business name.
3. Provide all of the information required on the registration form. Premier accounts will require much less information (needing only a name, address, email address and password), while Business accounts require more (including the business's name and information).
4. Click on the Merchant Services option under the Business tab once you have logged in to your account.
5. Choose either the Website Payments Standard or the Website Payments Pro option for your cart. While the latter has a monthly fee, it also allows you to process credit card payments on your own website rather than forwarding customers to PayPal's website. With either option, your customers do not need a PayPal account.
6. Select the category that matches what you will be receiving payments for. This option affects only which parameters you must supply and what your button will look like. For instance, the "Products" option will give you a "Add to Cart" button, while the "Donation" option will give you a "Donate" button.
7. Enter the name of the item, its price, the shipping cost and tax rate. Other types of buttons (for example, donations) will allow you to enter a fixed amount associated with the button, or will generate a blank form into which your customer may enter any amount.
8. Click "Create Button" and PayPal will generate code that should be copied and pasted to your website. Select all of the code in the box and copy it by choosing "Copy" from the Edit menu. Then, paste the code into the source of the webpage on which you want the button to appear.
9. Create buttons for every specific good or service you plan to sell on your eCommerce website and continue to add the button code to the appropriate pages on your website.
