How to Use a Visa to Dispute an Online PayPal Payment

1. Find the Visa card you used to purchase your goods through PayPal, and locate the 800 number on the back of the card. You can also consult your latest credit card statement or preferably the card statement with the charge present to find a customer service phone number for your Visa card.
2. Call the Visa customer service number on your card from a secure telephone and listen to the menu prompts. Most Visa card phone numbers will have an option to press a number or state a vocal command to start a dispute. If you do not hear a command specifically for disputes, select a general customer service or 'speak to a representative' line.
3. Explain your desire to institute a chargeback to the customer service representative. Be prepared to verify your identity and to provide additional information concerning the reasons for your Visa credit card payment dispute with PayPal.
4. Take down any additional information the customer service representative provides you with over the telephone. This information can include confirmation numbers, the representative's employee number and future dates relevant to the status of your dispute.
5. Engage in frequent communication with your Visa credit card customer service department after this phone call. After you contact Visa, Visa will contact PayPal, which will contact the business you purchased your product from. The process will then be reversed. If you do not receive further communication on your issue within the claim time-frame limitations your Visa customer service representative quoted you, contact Visa again.
6. Respond promptly to any requests for further information from your Visa card company. If the PayPal merchant or PayPal provides Visa with additional details regarding your purchase, you may need to provide more information regarding your reasons for starting a PayPal payment dispute with Visa.
7. Check your monthly credit card statements. When your dispute has been closed through Visa, check your next monthly credit card statement to verify you have received a credit for your purchase, or if you have been re-billed depending on the outcome of the dispute.
