How to Not Get Chargebacks on PayPal
1. Make it easy on customers to contact you. This involves providing current contact information on your website or on eBay when you use this method to sell to others. When a customer tries to contact you, it is important that you respond immediately. If you keep the lines of communication open, customers are much less likely to charge back an item through PayPal. Most people resort to this only if they feel like they are being taken advantage of and the seller is not cooperating.
2. Describe the item that you are selling in as much detail as possible. If possible, include pictures of the item that you are selling online. One of the major reasons that people charge back items through PayPal is because the item that they received is not what they expected. If you can describe the item in detail, this can set up realistic expectations for your customers. They will be less likely to be caught off-guard when the item arrives.
3. Track shipments with the means that are available through your preferred method of shipping. For example, purchase insurance for the item and use a delivery receipt. This way, the customer will have to sign for the item when he receives it. If you ship through UPS or FedEx, get a tracking number and use this information to find out exactly where the item is at all times. One of the most common reasons that people charge back purchases is because they claim that they never arrived. If you can prove that the item was delivered, you can avoid the chargeback.
4. Create a clear return policy and make it visible for your customers. If your customers understand your policy before they purchase an item, they will be less likely to file for a chargeback through PayPal.
